Byron (Islington), N1

A growing chain serving up simple, tasty hamburgers

“We source good beef from Scotland. We mince it fresh every day. We cook it medium so it’s pink, juicy and succulent. We place it in a soft, squishy bun with minimum fuss and fanfare. We serve it with a smile in a comfortable environment. And that’s it.”

Byron have a good ethos and I like the fact that their burger menu only has 7 variations. They’re trying to keep it simple and do it well. We had two cheeseburgers, one with blue cheese and one with Emmenthal, a bowl of fries and some coleslaw.

They’ve got a decent selection of beers including some craft beers like Camden Hells Lager and one of Brewdog’s Pale Ales.

Byron is just up the road from Angel station so it’s always busy. I don’t know if you can book or not but there was plenty of space at 19:00 on the Tuesday night we went.

This is the first Byron I’ve been to. The run down decor is a bit annoying, I don’t know why it’s cool to eat next to crumbling brickwork and insulation foam but apart from that first impressions are good. It’s not the best burger you’ll have and the menu may be too narrow for some people but Byron aren’t trying to push the boundaries, it’s all about simple, good burgers and they’re doing it well.
