Bodeans (Soho), W1

Need no teef to eat my beef

“Back in 2002 Andre Blais had a dream – to bring the taste, the style, the soul of his beloved Kansas City barbecue to London town. 10 years later, the Bodean’s family of diner-delis goes from strength to strength – the result of a tireless team effort dedicated to living the dream.”

There are four branches of Bodeans – Soho, Clapham, Fulham and Tower Hill. I’ve been to the Soho one a few times now and it consistently delivers. It’s on two levels, an open upstairs area with long, communal tables and a full restaurant downstairs. Some dishes are only available downstairs, like the platters (I don’t know why). At the Soho branch you have to be a group of 8 or more to book, so if you’re less than that you should prepare yourself for a wait or around 30 mins for upstairs or double that for the main restaurant.

They have a ‘Q Card’ which is free and entitles you to free stuf depending which day you decide to go – we got free desserts on the night we were there.

We were a group of 7 so were seated in the restaurant downstairs, where there’s normal waiter service as opposed to the self ordering system they run upstairs. There’s a big range of meat on offer. I opted to share a Boss Hog Platter, which at £34.95 is reasonable value considering you get “a full selection of our finest meats including Spare and Baby Back Ribs, a Jacob’s Ladder Beef Rib, Burnt Ends, Pulled Pork, Chicken Thighs and 2 smoked Sausages” as well as fries and coleslaw.

I’ve always been a massive fan of BBQ so the platter is a great way of making sure you don’t miss out on anything.

It’s one of the best BBQ places I’ve been to in London, although it can’t match up to it’s equivalents across the pond. Great place for a party if you get enough people to book a table. The food’s always good, there’a a decent selection of beers and the staff are good fun.
